3 Days Tsavo East - Taita
Day 1
Pick up from Moi international airport or city hotel or pre-agreed pick up point. After a short briefing by your driver guide, you will depart and drive along the Mombasa-Nairobi road heading north following the route of the railway line. Soon the vast plains of Tsavo become visible in the distance with Taita hills on the horizon. Enter Tsavo East National Park, Kenya’s largest wildlife sanctuary through Bachuma gate. The park holds the country’s largest elephant population, popularly known as the Red Elephant. The game drive meanders through the vast plains interspersed with woodlands that behold captivating views of the Taita Hills and the impressive Yatta plateau for a glimpse of the Hippos. Exploring the hinterlands of the park is a rewarding experience with opportunities of seeing Lions, Cheetahs or the great herds of Buffaloes stampeding across the plains, arriving at Aruba Lodge for lunch. After lunch followed by a brief rest, continue on an evening game drive returning to the lodge at sundown.
Ashnil Aruba Lodge has 40 deluxe rooms and each have a terrace overlooking the plains or the Aruba dam. The rooms are comfortable ensuring a pleasant stay. The rooms also contain an ensuite toilet and shower facility with bathroom accessories. Aruba Lodge is on the northern bank of Aruba Dam constructed across the Voi River in 1952. This makes it a favorite sport for large mammals especially the herds of elephants that are often colored red from the soil, and are quite a spectacle. The park is home to the Burchells zebra, the Masai giraffe, impala, Grants Gazelle, Lesser Kudu, Cape buffalo and others. If you are lucky the rare Hirola or Hunter’s hartebeest can be spotted. Lions, cheetah and the occasional leopards and a myriad species of birds are also residents of the park.
>>Overnight Aruba Lodge or similar on Full Board basis.
Day 2
Early in the morning, embark on a game drive returning to the lodge for full breakfast followed by check out. After which, drive to Sarova Saltlick arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, relax at the lobby where you will possibly see Elephants with their calves and other antelopes drinking from the water hole. Enjoy an evening game drive in the Sanctuary which hosts varied species of birds and other wildlife, returning to the lodge as the sun sets. Later (Optional) proceed for an hour-long night game drive in the sanctuary where you have the opportunity to see nocturnal animals amongst other wildlife, with luck, you can even sport a kill or a pride of lions feasting. You will experience the sounds of the African jungle which can be quite exhilarating.
Sarova Saltlick Lodge is located inside a private Wildlife Sanctuary which is adjacent to Tsavo National Park, thus playing a very important role in the protection and conservation of Kenyas wildlife heritage. The whole lodge is raised on stilts, providing 24-hour game viewing opportunities from any corner of the lodge. The rooms are built in two storey blocks from a central pod and linked together by elevated platforms – overlooking a salt lick and small waterhole. The rooms are spacious and beautiful with exquisite ethnic décor in keeping with the environment. The restaurant, bar and main balconies have views over the water hole and salt lick, which is constantly in use by local park residents. There is also an underground hide for closer encounters.
